According to data from the federal Ministry of Health, three municipalities in Baja California Sur (BCS) are among the most affected nationwide by the fourth wave of infections, as they have a high incidence rate of this disease.
The red lights are shown mainly in La Paz, due to the fact that in the last month it has registered an infection rate of 2,684 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, which represents a figure 11 times higher than the national record.
As shown in the graph, Los Cabos and Comondú are among the 10 municipalities with the highest incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants, despite the small population of both communities compared to other cities in the center of the country.
Experts attribute the accelerated spread of this disease to the arrival of the Omicron variant in Mexico. To date, only one case of this Covid-19 variation has been reported in BCS.
