He has already started the lobster capture season in Comondú; last year generated 2,500 tonnes, most of which were marketed to the Asian market

La Paz, Baja California Sur (BCS). This week began the 2020-2021 season for the capture of lobster in zone 3 of Baja California Sur,  which ranges from the Boca de la Soledad in Comondú to the Gulf of California; this fisheries has on an annual average of 2,300 tons, reported the Secretary of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Agricultural Development(Sepada), Andrés Córdova Urrutia.

“Last year alone, this research yielded around 2,500 tonnes, which is mostly marketed alive to the Asian market […] market behavior opens up good expectations for the activity,” the official said.

Baja California Sur has stood out as the third national producer of seafood, in addition to being a leader in this fish shop with the average annual obtaining, Córdova Urrutia noted.

In giving the start flag, the owner of Sepada emphasized that priority has been given to maintaining the accompaniment and support to the activities of the primary sector, allowing to improve the quality of life of the related families.

Similarly, it valued efforts to promote the marketing of primary products; special emphasis has been placed on the health certification of bodies of water, in which Baja California Sur ranks second in the country.

“Best wishes in this new lobster capture season; the half peninsula is also a country leader in obtaining abalone, oysters and clams, high-value commercial research and through which Baja California Sur has a presence in the markets,” he concluded.
